چکیده

The revised Enskog kinetic theory ~RET! for a system of hard spheres provides an exceptionally broad description of mesoscopic and macroscopic dynamics, applicable for both fluid and solid phases, long and short wavelengths, low and high densities, and exact at short times. This great potential is compromised by the difficulty of obtaining solutions outside the domain of linear response. In the present work a simpler kinetic model based on the RET is proposed with the same scope of application but accessible to solution for more general states. As a test of this model the rheological properties of a fluid under shear far from equilibrium are calculated as a function of the density and shear rate. Comparisons with Monte Carlo simulations of the RET show excellent agreement for transport properties but some limitations of the model for predicting velocity distributions at large shear rates. The model is discussed critically and its potential for several future applications is noted. @S1063-651X~98!01902-3#

Solvation Force in Hard Ellipsoid Molecular Liquids with Rod-Sphere and Rod- Surface Interactions

In previous work, one of us calculated the Solvation force of hard ellipsoid fluid with hard Gaussian overlap potential using hard needle wall interaction and non-linear equation proposed by Grimson- Rickyazen. In present work, using density functional theory and extended restricted orientation model, the solvation force of hard ellipsoid fluid in presence of more realistic rod- sphere and rod-...

From Discrete Particle Model to a Continuous Model of Geldart a Particles

A reliable description of dense gas–solid two-phase flows of Geldart A particles in gasfluidized beds at life-size scale is of great practical importance in process industries. The classical two-fluid model, based on the kinetic theory of granular flows (KTGF), provides a very promising theoretical framework for predicting large-scale gas–solid twophase flows. However, thus far the two fluid mo...

Simulation of nanodroplet impact on a solid surface

A novel computational fluid dynamics and molecular kinetic theory (CFD-MK) method was developed to simulate the impingement of a nanodroplet onto a solid surface. A numerical solution of the Navier–Stokes equation using a volume-of-fluid (VOF) technique was used to model nanodroplet deformation. Dynamic contact angle during droplet impact was obtained by molecular kinetic theory. This dynamic c...

Evaluation of Eulerian Two-Fluid Numerical Method for the Simulation of Heat Transfer in Fluidized Beds

Accurate modeling of fluidization and heat transfer phenomena in gas-solid fluidized beds is not solely dependent  on the particular selected numerical model and involved algorithms. In fact, choosing the right model for each specific operating condition, the correct implementation of each model, and the right choice of parameters and boundary conditions, determine the accuracy of the results i...
